A lot of people claim that nofap is overrated. Some say that nofap has no benefits while others say that nofap has some benefits, but those are overstated.
In this article, we’re gonna discuss is nofap overrated, the argument behind people calling nofap overrated, what type of people say nofap is overrated, and who is nofap overrated for.
Is NoFap is Overrated?
The short answer to that question is No, NoFap is not overrated.
If you expect nofap to change your life and give you superpowers, then you’ll be disappointed. If you expect nofap to reverse the damage caused by the excessive use of porn and masturbation, then it’s definitely worth it.
Low motivation, porn-induced erectile dysfunction(PIED), low libido, depression, anxiety are just some of the harmful side effects of the excessive use of porn and masturbation.

If porn and masturbation do have harmful side effects and giving up porn and masturbation can reverse the damage caused by it, then why do some people say that nofap is overrated?
Well, I’ve observed that there are mainly 3 types of people who say that nofap is overrated. Let’s look at those types of people one by one and discuss why they say nofap is overrated.
What Type of People Say NoFap is Overrated?
There are mainly 3 types of people who say nofap is overrated.
1. People Who Have Never Done NoFap
People who have never done nofap say nofap is overrated. Either they never developed a compulsion to watch porn/ masturbate or don’t want to give up porn and masturbation.
People who never developed a compulsion to watch porn or masturbate either never watch porn/masturbate or do it rarely. If you indulge in PMO(porn, masturbation, orgasm) rarely, maybe once a week, then you won’t realize its harmful side effects.
It’s like a person who smokes/drinks alcohol rarely says that smoking and drinking have no side effects and giving up smoking/drinking has no benefits. Just like you won’t experience the harmful side effects of smoking/alcohol if you do it rarely, you won’t experience the harmful side effects of PMO if you do it rarely.
Smoking/drinking still has side effects even if you do it rarely but they are too small to be observed. Similarly, watching porn and masturbating rarely still has side effects, but they are too small to be observed. Just like smoking/drinking can get addictive, PMO can get addictive too.
There are currently 792k members in the Reddit nofap forum, r/nofap, and it’s growing every day. All these people have experienced the harmful side effects of porn and masturbation, that’s why they have decided to quit it. Saying porn and masturbation has no side effects means saying that either all these people are lying or all the side effects these people have experienced/are experiencing are not real, it’s just in their heads.
The nofap forum on Reddit is not the only one. There are many online nofap forums on the internet with millions of members. All these people have firsthand experienced the damages caused by porn and masturbation, both mentally and physically.
The reason why nofap is a new phenomenon is because high-speed internet pornography is a new phenomenon. People have been masturbating for ages but without porn. It’s harder to get addicted to masturbation if you do it just with your imagination. You can’t keep yourself aroused for a longer period of time if you just use your imagination.
But with an artificial stimulus like porn, you can keep yourself aroused for as long as you want. In just a click, you’ll come across a new video that’ll keep your aroused. This sexual novelty can keep your dopamine levels high for a longer period of time.
But, the downside of this is that that high level of dopamine becomes your new normal. All the other activities which can’t give you that high level of dopamine will become boring/monotonous and you’ll need to keep watching porn and jerking off to keep feeling “normal”, That’s how porn and masturbation become addictive.
People who indulge in PMO in moderation or people who masturbate without porn are less likely to feel the side effects of PMO as compared to someone who jerks off by watching porn every day.
2. People Who Did NoFap But Did Not Experience Any Benefits
People who did nofap but did not experinece any benefits say that nofap is overrated. There are further 2 types of people in this group.
2. (a) People Who Thought NoFap Would Change Their Life
People who did nofap thinking that nofap would change their life, meaning they set unrealistic expectations from nofap, often get disappointed and quit nofap and start saying that nofap is overrated.
NoFap is not a magic pill that’ll magically solve all your life’s problems. It’ll reverse the damages caused by porn and masturbation.
The goal of nofap isn’t to solve your life’s problems or give you “superpowers”, its goal is to kick porn and masturbation out of your life permanently.
For example, PMO makes you socially anxious, and giving up PMO can reverse that and make you more social. You’ll feel confident talking to people and making friends. Giving up porn and masturbation will restore your dopamine receptors and you’ll start finding pleasure in little things.
Porn and masturbation are like a shackle that is holding you back from realizing your full potential. Giving up porn and masturbation frees you from that shackle and helps you in realizing your full potential. It’s not a magic pill.
People who treat nofap as a magic pill often get disappointed and for them nofap is overrated.
2. (b) People Who Did Not Include Other Self Improvement Activities With NoFap
Nofap is about discipline. It’s about controlling your sexual energy and utilizing it to improve your life and achieve your life goals.
People who just refrained from porn and masturbation and did not replace those habits with something new, don’t experience many benefits on nofap and then they start thinking nofap is overrated.
NoFap will give you more courage to approach women, but you’re still gonna have to approach women to get a girlfriend. Nofap will give you more motivation to do the things which will improve your life, but you’re still gonna have to put in the effort and time to achieve what you want to achieve. You’ll be more motivated to go to the gym on nofap, but you’re still gonna have to hit the gym and train hard to get a good physique.
Nofap doesn’t directly give you anything, it just gives you more motivation to do the things which will improve your life.
You’re gonna have to replace porn and masturbation with something new and productive to experience the benefits. If you just rely on nofap and don’t include other self-improvement activities like exercising, reading, meditating, etc. to improve your life, you’ll be disappointed with nofap.
If you give up porn and masturbation and replace it with good habits like exercising, reading, meditating, etc., then you’ll feel unstoppable, and achieving anything will become easier. Also, it’s easier to inculcate good habits on nofap than without it.
3. People Who Are Too Addicted to Even Think About Doing NoFap
People who are too addicted to even think about doing nofap say that nofap is overrated.
These types of people are emotionally attached to porn and masturbation. They are dependent on it to feel good. Without porn and masturbation, they feel like something is missing from their life.
They indulge in PMO daily for hours. Whenever they feel anger, sadness, frustration, or any other negative emotion, they turn to porn and masturbation. They can’t imagine their life without it.
Deep down they know that porn and masturbation are ruining their life and they want to quit it, but they just don’t know how to quit it. So, they comfort themselves by saying that porn and masturbation are fine and even healthy just because everyone else is doing it. They say nofap is overrated to comfort themselves.
The truth is nofap is not easy, it’s hard. People who can’t imagine their life without porn and masturbation often say that nofap is overrated. Just because nofap is hard, many people don’t even try or give up after relapsing a few times.
Who is NoFap Overrated For?
If you expect nofap to change your life, solve your life’s problems, or give you “superpowers”, then nofap is overrated for you, but if you expect nofap to reverse the damage caused by porn and masturbation, then it is not overrated and is worth doing.
NoFap is overrated if you treat it as a magic pill. If you wish to kick porn and masturbation out of your life and replace it with good habits, then nofap is worth doing.
